Thailand Thailand, formerly known as Siam, is a country at the center of the Southeast Asian Indochinese peninsula composed of 77 provinces with the large amount of population, approximately 68 million people. Bangkok is the capital and the largest city. Myanmar and Laos border Thailand to the north, to the east by Laos and Cambodia, to the south by the Gulf of Thailand and Malaysia, and to the west by the Andaman Sea and the southern extremity of Myanmar. Its maritime boundaries include Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand to the southeast, and Indonesia and India on the Andaman Sea to the southwest.

The Monarchy

The Thai monarchy has been a pillar of stability in Thailand. The Thai sense of identity is closely linked to the monarchy, an institution that dates back more than 700 years. The institution, to this day, continues to play a unifying role and symbolizes the unity of the Thai communities. Presently, His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua is the King of Thailand since 2016. He is the only son of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej The Great and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. On Saturday, 4th May 2019, a grand traditional ceremony occurred for the Coronation of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, King Rama X in Bangkok, Thailand. Moreover, Thailand has recently celebrated Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana.

The Government

Since 1932, the Kingdom of Thailand has been a parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy, making it one of the oldest democracies in Asia. The administration of the country is carried out by the Council of Ministers headed by the Prime Minister under a bicameral parliamentary system. Throughout its modern history, Thailand has steadily strengthened its democratic institutions to ensure that the voices of all people are heard and respected. Currently, General Prayut Chan-o-cha is a Prime Minister of Thailand.
